Step by step

How to do a giveaway on Twitch

From a cold start to a winner on stream, this takes about two minutes.

Create the round

Make a free SpinDeck account, click New giveaway, and name the prize — a Steam key, a gift card, whatever you are giving away. Pick how many slots the deck has, anywhere from 2 to 200. The slot count is your entry cap. With auto-spin enabled, a full deck triggers the countdown and draw.
Paste your Twitch channel

Drop in your channel name or your full twitch.tv/yourname URL. SpinDeck joins your chat as an anonymous read-only reader, the same way a logged-out viewer watching in a browser tab does. Nothing is added to your channel, your mod list, or your connected apps.
Choose the keyword

The default is !join, choose one short word tied to your stream, such as a sponsor name or a custom command. Whole-word matching means someone typing “joined the discord” will not accidentally enter.
Add the overlay to OBS

Copy the overlay URL from the round page and add it in OBS as a Browser source at 1920×1080. The background is transparent, so it sits over your gameplay. It shows a live slot counter while the deck fills, the full wheel while it spins, and the winner card at the end.
Tell chat the word

That is it. Each eligible viewer who types the keyword while entries are open takes one slot, shown with their Twitch display name and an available profile picture or generated avatar. Repeat messages from the same person are ignored, so nobody improves their odds by spamming.

Why there is no Twitch bot to add

A Twitch chat raffle starts with a clear entry rule. Choose a keyword, decide who is eligible, and show the accepted entries before drawing a winner. SpinDeck brings those steps into one live control room with an animated reveal.

SpinDeck reads Twitch channel chat using an anonymous connection. You do not need to grant moderator access or authorize a posting bot to collect giveaway entries. Check the connection status in the control room before announcing your keyword.

That has three practical consequences worth knowing:

Setup is a pasted channel name, not an OAuth flow
Nothing to remove later, and nothing that can post in your channel by mistake
It keeps working if you change your stream key, your title, or your category

Use the subscriber filter to check badges when a viewer enters. Subscribers, moderators and broadcasters are eligible under this setting. Announce these entry rules before starting.

Random winner selection

The winner comes from crypto.randomInt on the server, chosen before the animation starts. The wheel replays a curve toward a decision already made, so nothing in any browser can nudge where it lands.

Private key delivery

Store the Steam key or CD key with the round. Public pages and overlays do not expose the stored code. Verify the winning account and send its private claim link directly; anyone with that link can reveal the code.

Bot and alt blocklist

Block known unwanted platform accounts from your future rounds. SpinDeck prevents repeated entries from the same account; the blocklist does not automatically detect a person using other accounts.

Everyone sees the same spin

The server broadcasts the spin curve, not just the result. Your overlay, the public round page and every viewer’s phone land on the same card with server-synchronized timing. Your stream broadcast may still be delayed.

Set the purpose when you create your activity, before collecting entries.

Prize giveaway

Choose Prize giveaway for a game key, gift code or another reward you supply. Set the entry keyword, eligibility filter and slot count. After the draw, verify the winning Twitch account and deliver the prize privately.

Viewer selection

Choose Viewer selection to pick a player for your next lobby, a community challenge participant or someone to join you on stream. No prize code or delivery confirmation is required. The result is saved as a selected viewer.

A practical setup

For a 25-slot community game, choose Viewer selection, connect your Twitch channel and set a keyword such as !play. Open entries, check that an eligible viewer appears, then draw manually or enable automatic spin. Each Twitch account gets one accepted entry; manual additions remain separate entries.

A round supports 2 to 200 slots by default. A full deck starts the countdown only when automatic spin is enabled. Follow the setup guide or check a missing chat entry.

How do I run a giveaway on Twitch?

Create a round on SpinDeck, name the prize, choose the slot count and keyword, paste your Twitch channel link, and add the overlay URL to OBS as a browser source. Tell chat to type the keyword. Do I need a Twitch bot or to mod anything?

No. SpinDeck only reads chat, anonymously, so it never needs permission to post. There is no bot account to invite, no moderator role to grant, and nothing added to your connected apps.

Is it free?

Yes. Creating an account and running Twitch giveaways is free, with no card required. Default limits are 3 live rounds, 20 drafts and up to 200 slots per round.

Can I make a giveaway subscriber-only?

Yes. Sub-only mode accepts viewers whose incoming chat message has a subscriber or moderator badge. Broadcasters and moderators can also enter; explain that rule to your viewers before starting.

What command do viewers type?

!join by default, changeable to any word. Matching ignores case and invisible formatting characters. The keyword must be a complete word separated by whitespace. A sentence containing the exact word counts; !joins does not match !join.

Can viewers enter more than once?

No. One slot per Twitch account, identified by the account’s stable user ID rather than the display name, so renaming does not create a second entry. Extra messages are ignored.

How many viewers can enter?

A round has 2 to 200 slots by default. For the first 25 entrants, choose 25 slots. With auto-spin enabled, the full deck starts a countdown before the wheel spins.

Does it work with channel points or subs as the entry method?

Entry is by chat keyword. Channel-point redemptions and subscribe events are not entry methods — that is deliberate, since reading chat needs no authorisation from you, while those events would require connecting an app to your Twitch account.

What if the winner is AFK?

The selected winner stays in the round history. Decide and announce a response deadline before running your giveaway. If you run another draw, create a new round; an existing result cannot be rerolled.

Can I run giveaways on Twitch and other platforms at once?

Yes. Add a YouTube or Kick link to the same round and all of those chats feed one wheel with one winner — useful if you multi-stream.
