Important difference

A live chat picker, not a comment picker

Most tools called a “YouTube comment picker” do something different from what a live streamer needs.

A comment picker reads the comment section under a finished video. You paste a video URL, it downloads comments, and you draw a name afterwards. That suits a channel running a week-long giveaway on an uploaded video.

A live chat picker reads the messages scrolling past while you are live, and reveals the winner on stream in front of the people who entered. That is what SpinDeck does.

The distinction matters for three reasons:

Timing. The draw happens during the stream, so the moment belongs to the audience that showed up, not to whoever reads the comments later.
Limits. SpinDeck accepts 2 to 200 slots per round by default. The slot count is the entry cap; repeating a message from the same channel does not create another slot.
Identity. Entries use the viewer’s YouTube channel ID and display name, with a profile picture when available or a generated avatar.

How to run a giveaway on a YouTube live stream

Go live, then create the round

Start your stream or premiere as usual. In SpinDeck, click New giveaway, name the prize and choose how many slots the deck has — 2 to 200. The slot count is the entry cap. With automatic spin enabled, filling it starts a countdown; otherwise you choose when to draw from accepted entries.
Paste your live stream URL

Paste a youtube.com/watch, youtu.be or /live/ video link with accessible live chat. SpinDeck collects new messages in batches using YouTube’s polling interval. Private videos, disabled chat and past chat replay are not supported. Test unlisted videos or premieres before relying on them for a giveaway.
Pick the keyword

!join by default, or any word you like. Matching ignores case and invisible formatting characters. Keep the keyword as a separate word: !join matches, while !joins or emoji attached directly to the keyword do not.
Add the overlay to OBS

Copy the overlay URL into OBS as a Browser source at 1920×1080. Transparent background, so it layers over your scene. It shows the filling counter, then the spin, then the winner card.
Say the word on stream

Each eligible viewer who types the keyword while entries are open takes one slot with their YouTube channel name and an available profile picture or generated avatar. Duplicates from the same channel are ignored. A full deck starts the countdown only when automatic spin is enabled.

Choose Prize giveaway when you are awarding something you provide. Connect the current live video, announce the keyword and explain who is eligible. After the draw, verify the selected YouTube channel before sharing a private prize link.

Viewer selection

Choose Viewer selection for a game lobby spot, a community challenge or another participation opportunity. There is no prize code to enter and no delivery status to manage. Viewers join through accessible live chat.

A practical setup

For a 20-slot viewer game, set the purpose to Viewer selection and the keyword to !play. Check a fresh chat message before announcing the draw. YouTube sends chat in batches, so entry timing can differ from your video and from other platforms.

Can I limit a giveaway to channel members?

Yes. The subscriber/member filter checks badges on each incoming chat message. Members, moderators and the broadcaster can enter under this filter. Explain the eligibility rules before the round starts.

Do viewers need to sign up for anything?

No. Viewers do not need a SpinDeck account. They type the word in your YouTube chat like any other message and their slot appears with their channel name and picture.

My stream has a delay. Will the reveal be spoiled?

Entries arrive in batches at YouTube’s polling interval. Each round has a public page that shares server timing with the overlay, so viewers watching along on a phone see the spin land with timing synchronized to the server; broadcast delay can still affect when viewers see it.

Can one giveaway cover YouTube and other platforms?

Yes. Add a Twitch or Kick link to the same round and every chat feeds one wheel with one winner.
